Life After Death: A Study Session in Memory of Robert Katz z”l
What wisdom does Judaism offer about life after death? How do we understand the daily blessing that praises God for giving life to the dead (mechayei hamayteem)? Why does our prayer book mistranslate that phrase as “Master of life and death?” What has shaped our own attitudes about life after death/reincarnation/eternal life? How much, if at all, was death and the possibility of life after death discussed in our own families? How, if at all, did that shape our own views? These are some of the questions we hope to consider at a study session on Jewish Teachings about Life after Death. We will meet on Zoom on Sunday afternoon, October 17, at 4:00 pm. Please register by Thursday noon, October 14, if you would like to participate. We aim to send you a Zoom link (or directions for connecting by phone) by Friday afternoon the 15th. If you have additional questions you would like us to address or if you have a Jewish text on the subject that you would like us to include in the discussion, please email them by Thursday noon to Rabbi Perlmutter, firstname.lastname@example.org. Saul is offering this session in honor of Robert Katz, of blessed memory. It was Robert who initially suggested that we have a study session on Jewish views of life after death.
